We should not have Fathers Day,rather remember to say thank you

Fathers Day….. why does that make me feel as if, having spent all year looking out for my family; caring for them; supporting them in their activities; on this one “special day” of the year, they get to say thank you?

I’d rather they carried on doing what they do today:- asking for my advice, support, and guidance as they navigate the adult world they are rushing headlong into. Sometimes [rare though it is], pausing for a moment and realising that yes, I am more than a “walking wallet / taxi service / sweet and chocolate dispenser and use those simple words…..

However, once a year, it is wonderful to pause, reflect and get a “Thanks Dad”!
